Toddlers

Classroom Philosophy

At our Daycare Edmonson Park centre, we embrace the pivotal stage of toddlers’ development, recognizing their burgeoning agency and autonomy. Our approach focuses on offering experiences that empower toddlers to make choices, fostering their growth and independence in our Edmonson Park childcare facility.

We employ strategies that provide guidance and support, ensuring toddlers have the freedom to choose their learning path. Emphasizing play and hands-on experiences, integral to child development, allows toddlers to comprehend their abilities and boundaries in our day care setting.

Toddlers navigate the complexities of emotions and social interactions. Our nurturing environment aids them in understanding emotions, sharing, empathizing, and cooperating, vital for their social-emotional development within our daycare centre.

During these formative years, toddlers undergo various transformations, including language development, toilet training, and social skill building. These experiences lay the groundwork for their future social interactions and child care needs.

Encouraging toddlers to take control of their development, we prioritize communication—verbal and non-verbal—to understand their needs and steer their early education. Each child is at the forefront of their learning journey, a principle integral to our approach to childhood care and child development.

What we Offer

At our Daycare Edmonson Park facility, we prioritize enriching hands-on experiences within a play space drenched in generous natural light, encouraging toddlers to explore and foster their creativity.

Our flexible routines seamlessly blend outdoor and indoor playtimes, offering toddlers a dynamic environment for child development and childhood care. Enriching daily activities include a dedicated Yoga Program designed to engage toddlers and support their development within our Edmonson Park childcare center.

Our comprehensive approach extends to a specialized Toilet Training Program, ensuring toddlers feel supported and empowered during this crucial stage of child development.

Comfort is paramount, with lowline bed stretches offering toddlers a cozy space for relaxation and high-quality sleep, aligning with Red Nose Safe Sleep guidelines, a cornerstone of our daycare facility’s standards.

Inclusive care encompasses the provision of all nappies and wipes, alleviating concerns for parents seeking dependable child care.

A highlight of our service is the provision of five nutritious meals daily, catering to various preferences, including options for fussy eaters, ensuring a well-rounded approach to day care and child development.

Toilet Training Program

Toilet training is an amazing step forward in a child’s development, but it can often be stressful, scary and upsetting, for both the child and the family.

We provide a high-quality toilet training program that works directly with families to incorporate a collaborative approach on toilet training.

Initial Assessment conducted on your child when preparing to toilet train:

  • Is the child walking and can sit for short periods of time?
  • Is the child generally more independent, including saying ‘no’ more often?
  • Is the child interested in watching others go to the toilet?
  • Does the child have dry nappies for 2 or more hours?
  • Does the child tell you with words or gestures when they do a poo or wee in their nappy?
  • Has the child begun to dislike wearing a nappy, perhaps trying to pull it off when it’s wet or soiled?
  • Does the child have regular, soft, formed bowel movements?
  • Can the child pull their pants up and down?
  • Can the child follow simple instructions like ‘Put the ball on the table’?

If your child shows 50% or more of these indicators, it is possible that they are ready to be toilet trained.

Educators and families work together to ensure your child feels safe, secure and prepared to start using the toilet.

Steps educators begin with pre toilet training:

  • Begin changing wet nappies standing in the bathroom

This builds children’s access to the bathroom environment, making it a common welcome place

  • Asking children to sit on the toilet for short moments to wait patiently for educators to “prepare their nappy”

This process is to assist the child to not feel pressure to wee on the toilet, but rather just to sit and wait familiarising them with sitting on the toilet, which takes any fears away they may have had.

  • Having children pull down and up their own pants before and after nappy changes

This is building independence and preparation for when they need to begin to wee on the toilet. If a child is able to pull their own pants down without assistance, they are more likely happier to complete their toileting with less frustration.

  • Having children use toilet paper to wipe or dry themselves during nappy changes
  • Learning how to flush the toilet and Hand hygiene education

Once educators and families feel your child is ready, the toilet training begins. Each child toilet training will initially be placed in pull ups, and receive a fun chart each day to mark their accomplishments in the bathroom. This chart is taken home with their families to follow through for the rest of the evening creating a home and school collaborative toilet training program. Children’s toileting successes are monitored on individual charts to prepare for transitioning into underwear.

Transitional assessment conducted on your child while toilet training in pull ups:

  • Has the child had consecutive Dry Pull ups through the toilet training process?
  • Are 50% or more of the child’s pull ups been dry through toilet training?
  • Is the child now able to pull up and down their own pants through the toilet training process?
  • Does the child communicate their need to use the toilet through the day?
  • Is the child able to wee whilst using the toilet?
  • Is the child able to poo whilst using the toilet?
  • Is the child happy to leave play to use the bathroom when required?
  • Is the child happy to be changed when soiled?
  • Is the child able to complete the toilet training process with little assistance?

When children are ready, families and educators work together to transition children into the next step of toilet training; underwear.

It is a lengthy process to toilet train toddlers, however at Bright Achievers we ensure that every child has the opportunity to do things in their own time and are provided with all the benefits of accomplishing small steps towards toilet training.

Progress Reports on our Toilet training program are provided to families along the way, and open communication between the educator, child and parent is always there to ensure the smoothest possible toilet training experience for each individual child.
